Screenwriter & Script Doctor
Vanessa King is a freelance development consultant, screenwriter, and script doctor who has worked in the entertainment industry for nearly two decades.
As a screenwriter, she has won and placed in multiple industry contests including ScreenCraft’s Pilot Launch, Final Draft Big Break, The Sony Emerging Filmmakers Contest, The Great American Screenplay Competition, BlueCat, and others. She is a four-time appointee to The Bitch List, an industry list that features the top unproduced scripts with female protagonists. She has performed numerous times at Upright Citizen's Brigade-East as an invited storyteller and tweets (@manhattancanuck) have been chosen as Tweets of the Week by The Huffington Post.
A former moderator of The New York City Screenwriter’s Collective, in 2016, she co-founded the New York Screenwriters Co-Op which offers no-cost, bi-monthly screenwriting workshop and instruction to the general public. She is also faculty at Gotham Writers Workshop where she teaches classes in both TV Writing and Screenwriting.
Vanessa has worked behind the scenes on more than 20 feature films and in 2017 was named to the George Wayne/Vanity Fair’s 2017 Downtown 100 List, a list that recognizes New York City’s top creatives, networkers and influencers in the NYC entertainment community.
She holds a B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University.
